Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Neptune processes when you connect your media services, use optional online features, make a purchase, or send a diagnostic report.

Our Privacy Commitments

  • Neptune contains no advertising or cross-app tracking.
  • Neptune does not sell personal information.
  • Most library, playback, account, and preference data stays on your device and the services you choose to connect.
  • Optional hosted features transmit only the information needed to provide that feature.

Information Stored on Your Device

Depending on the features you use, Neptune stores:

  • Service configuration: Jellyfin, Plex, Seerr, and plugin server addresses and selected accounts.
  • Credentials: Authentication tokens, passwords where applicable, and provider API keys in Apple Keychain or platform-protected storage.
  • App data: Preferences, profiles, playback state, search indexes, cached metadata and artwork, diagnostic logs, and offline downloads.
  • Identifiers: Random device and purchase identifiers used for server sessions, StoreKit purchases, entitlement support, and user-requested diagnostics.

Neptune does not access your photo library, contacts, precise location, microphone, or camera.

Services You Connect

Neptune sends requests directly to services you configure or authorize:

  • Jellyfin and Plex: Authentication, library metadata, playback activity, media streams, and account actions.
  • Seerr: Authentication, discovery metadata, media requests, and account actions.
  • Neptune Plugin Suite: Settings synchronization, catalog updates, and enabled plugin features hosted by your media server.

These services are operated by you or their respective providers. Their own privacy policies and server settings govern their processing.

Optional Metadata and AI Services

  • TMDB: Media identifiers and metadata queries are sent to The Movie Database when TMDB-powered features are enabled.
  • Neptune AI: Search text and the limited library context needed to answer the request are sent to Neptune's hosted AI service when selected.
  • Your AI provider: If you configure Ollama, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter, prompts and relevant context go directly to that provider under its terms and privacy policy.
  • Trailer providers: Opening an online trailer can send the trailer identifier and ordinary network information to the selected external service.

AI features are optional. Avoid entering sensitive personal information into a search or prompt. Provider API keys stay in protected device storage and are sent only to authenticate with the provider you selected.

Community Catalog Contributions

Neptune does not send library-gap metadata unless you choose Allow. When enabled, Neptune may send metadata about items in your library that are missing from its shared semantic catalog:

  • TMDB identifier, media type, title, year, and original language.
  • Ordinary network information needed to deliver the request, secure the service, and prevent abuse.

No media files or playback history are included. Contributions may be combined with public metadata and other contributions to create catalog results distributed to Neptune users.

Turn Community Catalog Contributions off in Settings > Metadata at any time to stop future submissions. Submitted records are retained while useful to validate, build, and maintain the catalog, and resulting shared catalog entries may remain after you turn contributions off. Contributions are not linked to a Neptune account, so Neptune may not be able to identify a particular prior submission; contact support@neptuneplayer.com with questions or deletion requests.

Purchases

Apple processes Neptune Pro purchases. Neptune receives StoreKit entitlement information such as product, subscription status, transaction state, and a random app account token. Neptune does not receive your full payment-card details. Apple's privacy policy governs payment processing.

Diagnostic Reports

Neptune sends no automatic analytics or crash reports. A report is uploaded to Neptune only after you choose Send Logs. A report can include:

  • App version, build, device model, operating-system version, and random device identifier.
  • Configured server name and URL, connection state, Jellyfin and Seerr display names, and administrator status.
  • Feature settings, entitlement tier, random app account token, recent logs, and playback-session troubleshooting details such as item names and codec information.

Passwords and authentication tokens are not intentional report fields. Diagnostic text is automatically scrubbed when captured and again before upload to remove credential-like values, URL user-info and query values, and email addresses. Diagnostic reports are used to investigate support requests, prevent abuse, and improve reliability. Neptune does not automatically delete diagnostic reports on a fixed schedule. Reports remain stored until Neptune removes them during manual maintenance or completes a deletion request. Contact us with the report reference code to request deletion.

Retention and Your Choices

  • Remove a connected server or sign out to remove its saved session from Neptune.
  • Uninstalling Neptune normally removes its app-container data, subject to platform behavior. Keychain items, including credentials and Neptune's stable purchase-support identifier, may persist after reinstall. Use Erase All Data before uninstalling if you want Neptune to remove those items.
  • Delete offline downloads and caches from Neptune's settings.
  • Contact support@neptuneplayer.com to request access to or deletion of information held by Neptune's hosted services.

Deleting Neptune does not delete information held by Apple or services you operate or connect; use those services' controls separately.

Security and International Processing

Neptune uses platform-protected storage and encrypted HTTPS connections for hosted services. Self-hosted servers may use unencrypted HTTP if you configure them that way. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Online providers may process information in countries other than your own.

Children

Neptune is a general-audience media client and is not directed to children under 13. Neptune does not knowingly collect a child's personal information through its hosted services. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information should contact us.

Changes and Contact

We may update this policy as Neptune changes. The effective date below identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate app or website notice.
